| These impressive houses, situated just outside the traditional village of Vamos in the Apokoronas region of Western Crete, have been built by a local Cretan who firmly believes in the traditions of the past as well as the benefits and importance of working with the environment. Beautifully constructed from natural stone, the interiors and exteriors have exceptional features that represent a bygone Crete tastefully combined with modern day comforts and luxuries.
The five houses offer a choice of one, two or three bedrooms. Apollo and Poseidon, the one-bedroom houses are rare finds as one-bedroom properties with their own pools are not often available. Their design is lovely with the bedroom positioned on an upper platform, reached by wooden stairs that lead from the open plan living/dining area. Further stairs lead from the bedroom to the terrace where you can enjoy nothing less than spectacular views of the White Mountains. Aphrodite and Artemis, built on two levels, and Athina, on one level, have two bedrooms, one twin and one double. They each have one bathroom with a luxury shower and a second WC. The three-bedroom villa, Dyonissos, has two bedrooms on an upper level and one on the lower level, and two luxury bathrooms. Each of the houses has its own swimming pool, air-conditioning, traditional hand made Cretan style furniture, a fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen, washing machine and spacious balconies or terraces, essential for enjoying the tranquillity and truly outstanding views. The Apokoronas region is known both for its pretty traditional villages and verdant landscapes and the recent introduction of eco-tourism. The village of Vamos, approximately six minutes on foot from Ellotis, is an excellent example of this. Its carefully restored houses, traditional grocery store and its narrow streets and tavernas, capturing flavours of the past, combine successfully with every day life. The Houses are less than ten minutes by car from the pretty beaches of Kalives and Almeritha. Both of these small resorts offer the convenience of any facilities you might need during your stay; supermarkets, bakeries, a bank, post office and a further excellent choice of tavernas, many situated picturesquely right next to the sea. |
