| For those who want a bit more privacy than a complex of apartments but don’t want the cost of a private villa this little house and its convenient position is well worth considering. It is situated away from the centre of the pretty resort of Almeritha in a very quiet setting with lovely sea views, yet only 5 minutes walk from the resort’s sweeping sandy beach, its waterside tavernas and little shops. It is one of a cluster of just 5 houses in this position, only 3 of which are used
regularly so privacy and tranquility is not a problem.
The house is detached, built on one level, and has two bedrooms, one double and one single, which, if required, is just large enough to accommodate a second bed, (which we are happy to add at no extra cost). The open plan kitchen/living/dining room is spacious, light and airy. The kitchen comprises a good size fridge/freezer and full size cooker and the living space has a comfortably large sofa that can also be used as an extra bed if desired. A spacious shady balcony on two sides of the house ensures plenty of space for relaxing, alfresco eating or for whiling away a few hours on a sun bed.
Traditionally a fishing village Almeritha, even with the addition of tourism over the years, retains a simple charm and a Cretan atmosphere. The resort nestles around a pretty bay with sandy beaches at either end of the village and a little harbour at its eastern end. You don’t see so many fishermen these days but village life still centres round the seaside with tavernas, of which there is plenty
of choice, lining the seafront, and cafes, mini markets and an enticing bakery scattered behind. For the more energetic, kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans are available to hire from the beach. Almeritha has all you need for a relaxing holiday, and it also makes a very convenient location for exploring Western Crete’s many attractions; the 18 km Samaria Gorge,Lake Kournas, the island’s only freshwater lake, the historical site of 5th century Aptera and the wonderfully atmospheric Venetian harbour town of Chania can all be easily reached from here.
We think Domina is excellent value accommodation and makes a perfect choice for those who want a relaxed beach based holiday or a convenient and comfortable base from which to explore this beautiful region of western Crete.
