If you want to fall asleep to the sound of the sea lapping against the shore and wake up each morning able to touch the crystal clear waters of the Libyan sea then Diaskari Villas are just for you!
These lovely Villas are situated at the edge of the resort of Makryialos on the southeast coast. They are idyllically positioned right next to the sea with a long sand/shingle beach running eastwards beside them, perfect for those morning, afternoon, evening, in fact any time of day, swims! With only a handful of accommodation close by the beach never gets crowded, favoured by a few locals and the occasional tourists who wander from Makriyialos.
Diaskari, originally a storehouse for carob pods, is a lovingly renovated detached stone building that has been divided into two self-contained traditional houses, simple and authentic in design. The result is two comfortable, character properties that have one of the best locations anywhere on Crete. Each villa has two bedrooms, one double on the ground level and one twin upstairs. There is also a Greek style mezzanine platform that has a single bed to sleep a fifth person if desired. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath on the ground floor and the other with a shower on the upper level.
One of their most enchanting features are the large arched doorways at the end of the spacious open plan living/dining areas, which leads out to the large patio, shared by both villas, overlooking the sea that stretches as far as the eye can see. If you find it difficult to leave this small oasis you can spend your evenings trying tasty local food at the traditional taverna situated just behind the villas. Otherwise Makriyialos (ten minutes on foot) offers all conveniences you might need, supermarkets, cafes, bars, bakeries, water sports and a wide choice of tavernas serving both traditional and international cuisine.
For those who like to combine relaxation and exploration, the region offers an incredible richness and diversity in places to visit. The archaeological sites of Zakros and Itanos, the Monastery of Toplou, the abandoned villages of Etia and Voila, the beautiful Pefki Gorge, the harbour towns of Sitia and Ierapetra and the exotic coastlines of Vai and Xerokampos to mention just a few!! |
