Situated on a quiet little back street only a stones throw from Rethymnon’s wonderful Venetian harbour the Palazzino Di Corina fits perfectly amidst the historical charm of this fascinating town where every corner turned uncovers a colourful and tormented past.
The town reached the height of its power and wealth during the Venetian occupation and many of the old buildings and sites stand well preserved from these historic times. Tall graceful minarets, wrought iron balconies, large wooden shutters, ornate doorways, Venetian fountains and the imposing battlements of the Fort that stands proud above the town are just some of Rethymnons’ delights. It also has a wide sandy beach (300 metres from Palazzino) next to the
modern town that adjoins the meandering narrow streets of the old town, where you can find an endless choice of tavernas, cafes, bars and shops.
With just 21 rooms the Palazzino holds onto a traditional warm family
hospitality and service. These beautiful old buildings, dating back four
hundred years, have been restored to include many of their original features, such as stone archways, long wooden beams and creaky staircases, and provide a story book for the imagination. The elegant rooms, most with wooden floors and attractive high beamed ceilings, offer a choice of twin/double rooms, junior suites and maisonettes (that can sleep a family of up to 4).
Comfortable, stylish and tastefully decorated they include modern conveniences of baths with hydro massage, air-conditioning, mini bar and satellite TV.A buffet breakfast is served in an airy restaurant that opens on to the lovely courtyard that has a small swimming pool (heated), more suited as a plunge pool than for doing lengths!!
With everything conveniently close by and culture and history right on your doorstep you can spend your days doing almost anything you want. A regular local bus service makes it easy to get out and about and discover some of the other gems the island has to offer; the Arkadi Monastery, the tombs of the Minoan Cemetery of Armeni, the colourful lake of Kournas and the natural springs of Argiroupolis. There is plenty of opportunity to relax, too, with such comfortable surroundings and the beach so close. At the end of the day,
watching the sun dip below the horizon as you enjoy a leisurely dinner next to the water in Rethymnon’s Venetian harbour, is a must! |
