| If you wish your holiday to reflect the simplicity and natural beauty of this wonderful island, look no further than Kato Zakros and Stellas Traditional Apartments! We couldn’t describe this location as anything other than ‘off the beaten track’ as Kato Zakros is situated, literally, at the end of the road on the edge of the wild, rugged and dramatically beautiful east coast. This ‘hidden Crete’ is for explorers, walkers, nature lovers as well as for those who like to spend their holidays in peaceful, natural surroundings doing very little! The daily activity of this tiny hamlet centres round the Palace of Zakros, one of Crete’s important Minoan sites, the ‘Valley of the Dead’, a dramatic, winding gorge which flows from the upper village to the sea and, of course, the handful of tavernas that sit invitingly right next to the sea, less than 10 minutes walk from Stellas.
The Stella Apartments fit perfectly amidst this beautiful, peaceful area.
Stella and Elias’, the owners, love of nature and the outdoors is evident in the wonderful gardens that surround the apartments where you can enjoy shady corners relaxing on sun beds or hammocks that swing gently between pine trees. In the evening the scents of the gardens natural herbs; basil, thyme, oregano and rosemary, mix exotically with the sweet smells of jasmine, pine and the wonderful sea air.
Stella’s apartments have been furnished with great attention to detail to
reflect the culture and age old traditions of Crete. Zakros, Minos and Kriti, sit side by side and each one has a studio style combined living/bedroom area, a kitchenette, shower or bath. And Georges villas, 5 more attached studios in the gardens, are similarly decorated in traditional and atmospheric detail. All have double beds, a well equipped kitchenette, a shower room, and shady verandas. A communal BBQ is also available in the gardens.
Stella and Elias will be more than happy to share their enthusiasm for this special area and advise places to visit and introduce you to the many walking paths in the area, many of which Elias has cleared himself for his own enjoyment, ……that’s if you can drag yourselves away from the serenity of this wonderful place. A sign hanging on Stella’s gate declares ‘Nothing…. closer to Paradise’ - we think that pretty much sums it up! |
