    Hidden beaches, breathtaking views, beautiful landscapes and clear blue seas are just a few things you will discover during a visit to Plakias. Situated in the middle of a wide south facing bay, surrounded by sweeping hills that provide a stunning backdrop and wonderful walking country, it has one of the most spectacular locations on the southwest coast.

    This low-key laid back welcoming little place provides no end of activities if you like to ‘get up and go’ during your holiday. Learn to snorkel or scuba dive in incredibly clear water, choose from gentle or challenging walking paths that meander from the resort to white-washed villages and tiny churches dotted amongst the hills. Visit the monastery of Preveli and discover some of the islands vast history, tradition and culture. Or enjoy the ‘laid-back’ pace of the Plakias ‘road-train’ to explore the dramatic Kourtalioti ravine and some of the regions hill villages.

    For those who prefer simple relaxation there is an attractive beach right on your doorstep and a wide choice of other beautiful beaches close by. In fact everything is close by in Plakias! You can find a wealth of excellent tavernas, beachside cafes, shops and the occasional music bar! From Plakias’ little harbour you can catch a boat to the pretty beach at Preveli situated just below the monastery at the mouth of the Kourtalioti ravine. If you want to explore the ravine further pedaloes are available for hire to take you up the palm bordered river.

    The Sarakina Apartments are situated slightly west of the main resort on the side of a small hill assuring them of superb sea views and a quiet setting. The four spacious one bedroom apartments all have sea-facing balconies, shower rooms, double beds and simple kitchen facilities, which include a mini-oven and a full fridge freezer. The closest beach and the main resort can be reached in five minutes or less by car. Less than a kilometre above Sarakina is Sellia, very much a Cretan village,where you can find a mini-market, butcher, taverna and best of all, the most magnificent views that span this wonderful bay.
