A glorious panorama unfolds as you head east from the islands capital, Heraklion, and arrive at the spectacular bay of Mirabello, a stunning location situated on the north east coast of Crete. Some of the highlights of this lovely area include the pretty bay of Elounda and the cosmopolitan harbour town of Agios Nikolaos. Connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway Elounda island creates a sheltered bay within a bay, which stretches to the fascinating island of Spinalonga that has a story all of its own, one we will discover during our days out. Next to Elounda lies Agios Nikolaos from where the gulf opens up and stretches to the dramatically soaring mountains of Sitia that glow pink in the evening light. Heading a little inland from this delightful bay is the wonderful 14th century church of the Panagia Kera and the atmospheric village of Kritsa, known for its handmade lace, embroidery and local handicrafts. During our tour we will discover the area close at hand as well as the wild rugged beauty of the far east of the island, known locally as the ‘hidden Crete’.  You will be introduced to the islands vibrant, colourful and tragic history by our local guide, the knowledgeable Constantine Kakoudakis who will accompany you to some of the historical and archaeological delights of the region, he will also help you uncover the rich culture that abounds in all directions on this fantastic island.
